Panamomops szinetari (Araneae: Linyphiidae), a new species for Czechia and Slovakia; a Pannonian steppe relict, an expanding thermophilic element, or an introduced invasive species? The paper reports on the occurrence of the newly described species Panamomops szinetari (Gallé-Szpisjak & Gallé, 2025) in Czechia and Slovakia. The species was previously known only from eastern Hungary. New localities are found in southeastern Czechia and southern Slovakia, on the northern edge of the Pannonian region. It was caught using pitfal traps on the soil surface and pipe traps inside the soil. It was found in steppe grasslands, salt marshes, meadows, and a highway cutting. The species is bound to grasslands and also penetrates cracks in the soil. However, it is also capable of colonizing secondary habitats. It is unlikely that this is a relict species that would have escaped the attention of two hundred years of intensive arachnological research in central Europe. It has appeared in three central European countries within just six years (2015 in Hungary, 2019 in Slovakia and 2021 in Czechia* – Figs 1–7). 5rane were a species undergoing gradual northward expansion due to climate warming, for example, this would have explained the new findings in Slovakia and Moravia, but not the many years of oversight in Hungary. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that this is in fact an introduced species that prefers natural steppe communities, where it has been spreading over the last ten years. If this were the case, 5raneae, we do not know its true geographical origin.

The studied locality, i.e. Klánovický les Forest is situated on the edge of Prague, one of the most polluted areas in the Czech Republic. Thanks to large area the forest acts as an isolation from agrochemicals, thus allowing the existence of some habitats sensitive to eutrophisation, in particular peat-bogs, heaths, bare sandy soils, and Molinia meadows. The habitats harbour unusually high species diversity of spiders and harvestmen: the author recorded 286 spider and 11 harvestman species there, which is approximately one third of the Czech fauna. Sixty one of them are red-listed in the Czech Republic. Peat-bog linyphiid Saaristoa abnormis, and steppe lycosid Alopecosa schmidti and linyphiid Panamomops inconspicuus are listed as endangered. Local small peat-bogs offer suitable conditions for disappearing lycosids Hygrolycosa rubrofasciata, Pirata piscatorius and Piratula uliginosa, while heaths harbour the disappearing Oxyopes ramosus. Water spider Argyroneta aquatica has recently been found in small pools in ditches along the railway. Littoral vegetation is inhabited by Theridiosoma gemmosum and the jumping spider Calositticus floricola. Disturbed soil surface of wet meadows harbours the wolf spider Arctosa leopardus. Some species have recently appeared at the site, for example Dysdera hungarica, the harvestman Nemastoma bidentatum sparsum or the crab spider Synema globosum. The first two were probably introduced there by man, the latter probably expands due to climate change. The author suggests to keep these habitats without woody vegetation to protect local high species diversity there.

Data on the spider fauna from the forest ecosystems of the Děvín National Nature Reserve (South Moravia, Czech Republic) are presented. The research was carried out on 15 randomly chosen research plots in oak-hornbeam forest stands within different management regimes. Spider sampling was done by pitfall trapping from May to October 2016. Overall, 3683 adult spiders belonging to 22 families, 70 genera and 116 species were collected. The families Linyphiidae, Lycosidae, Gnaphosidae and Thomisidae exhibited high species richness. The most abundant species were Pardosa lugubris (Walckenaer, 1802) and Trochosa terricola Thorell, 1856. Faunistically remarkable species were Atypus piceus (Sulzer, 1776), Drassyllus villicus (Thorell, 1875), Gnaphosa montana (L. Koch, 1866), Panamomops affinis Miller & Kratochvíl, 1939 and Walckenaeria monoceros (Wider, 1834). The record of Gnaphosa montana is one of the first accounts of this psychrophilic spider from European lowlands. Of the identified species, 23 are listed in the Red List of Threatened Species in the Czech Republic (EN – 1 species, VU – 12 species, LC – 10 species).
